Rowing Against The Current

Rowing against the current

Have you ever wondered why you can’t achieve a goal if you are following all the steps to do so? How is it possible that the results are not those desired or previously established if I am doing everything necessary to achieve them? How is it possible?

On many occasions we feel like this in life, and we think how is it possible not to achieve what I am setting out to do if I am following everything necessary to achieve it. Well maybe those steps are not correct. If we repeat patterns of behavior for a long time and the responses are the same, we must change the action so that the response also changes.

On the other hand, we live so fast and have so many things on our minds, that We are unable to stop and look at what is happening around us, We are even capable of hitting ourselves against the wall over and over again to achieve our objective, well our objective will never be to hit ourselves against the wall, so this pattern that leads us to always do the same thing must be changed.

Why do we confuse sacrifice with effort?

Many times we misfocus the concept of our actions We live in a society that has taught us that with our sacrifice we will go far, but it is not true, because sometimes sacrifice makes us leave something behind for something that does not compensate us, because there is already something that we have lost. Effort should be the time we invest to achieve something that will make us feel better.

Well, the theory is easy to understand, but the practice not so much. Why are we often unable to identify what situation we are in? We are so worried about the conflict itself that blocks us, that we don’t see beyond

Imagine that you are in a forest and in front of you there is a tree, and there is someone who explains to you that you are seeing a tree, although in reality there are many more, but since you are in front of it you are unable to see that there is a set of they. If you take two steps back you will see another different tree, if you go back six steps you will see another one. The further you move away from the focus, the more exits you can see

      I tell you a story

There is a group of people who meet at a lake, and it has been established that the objective is to cross to the other side. This objective is easy to identify, since a lighthouse can be seen at the finish line. But… how are they going to get to the lighthouse? Easy, there is a boat, and with this and group work, it is easy to cross the lake.

Well, imagine that you are in that group, and with great desire and enthusiasm you get on the boat first; You go completely ahead and start rowing, the boat moves forward, but there comes a moment when despite rowing you don’t see progress and the distance to the lighthouse always seems the same. You continue rowing with all your strength; You still don’t move forward, but you still keep rowing until you are exhausted. You look at the lighthouse and think… “how is it possible that we are not moving forward!”

Well, now turn around and look at the people who are with you in the boat, Some have stopped rowing, others are rowing against the current because they have decided to change their objective and this is now to return to the origin where it started from.

What options we have? Some of you will think: “well, I jump into the water and swim to the lighthouse.” You can’t because the water is too cold and your body won’t handle the temperature. “Well, then since I’m the strongest I’ll keep rowing.” You won’t make it, the rest of the group rows in the opposite direction. The smartest option is stop rowing while the boat returns to the origin, this way you can rest and when you are back in the port you will take a boat alone and row to the lighthouse. Only then will you reach your goal.

Neurolinguistic programming (NLP) gives us tools to identify those unconscious states that make us generate negative behavioral patterns, and once identified our job is to reprogram them into positive states, into behaviors that help us feel better about ourselves. , thus being able to achieve those goals that we set for ourselves. And you, do you dare to reprogram yourself?
