In recent years it seems that every romantic comedy worth its salt – whether it is a movie or a series – must have an explosive couple whose combination always works: a heterosexual female protagonist who has a gay friend to whom she can tell all her sorrows and joys. and whom to ask for advice in any situation.
And, said like this, it appears as one of the clichés with less foundation that may exist. However, a study conducted by the University of Texas – and which has recently been published by the specialized psychology magazine, Evolutionary Psychology – seems to show that it is a theory with proven scientific basis
As stated by the psychologist report’s precursor, Eric Russell, “homosexual men and heterosexual women perceive the other person’s advice with more confidence than similar advice offered by other individuals.”
The reasons? According to the results obtained, this good relationship is based on the fact that there is no type of competition between both positions and that they are really in the best position – the most privileged – when it comes to exchanging information.
These conclusions have been obtained thanks to experiments carried out with a sample made up of 58 homosexual men and 88 heterosexual women, who were told that the aim was to analyze the influence of online profiles on friendships.
From there, a fictitious Facebook profile was created of someone named Jordan – a name that, in English, can be used for both sexes – who randomly presented himself as a heterosexual man, a heterosexual woman or a gay for heterosexual girls; and a lesbian woman, a straight woman, or a gay man for the gay men group.
And, imagining that they went to a party accompanied by Jordan and asked him for advice on a possible conquest, the acceptance rate in case the opinion came from “a gay Jordan” by heterosexual women and from “a straight Jordan” In the case of homosexual men it was so high that the researchers considered their theories more than confirmed.
