How Can I Learn To Prioritize?

Nowadays, everything moves very fast and sometimes we are not aware of it. We see ourselves dragged and trapped by an inertia that is carrying us. In addition, this is usually a great source of stress that we find very difficult to get out of.

Of course, being productive, being able to take advantage of time and do things is something very positive, but sometimes it makes us lose sight of things that are important for us and our well-being.. Sometimes we act automatically and don’t stop to think about what we need. It is clear that we have to attend to obligations and responsibilities, but sometimes we neglect too much other types of things that help us maintain our balance.

We focus so much on the things we “have to do” that we no longer have time, and sometimes energy, for the things we “want to do.” Sometimes it even affects things that are important. We are willing to sacrifice many of these things without even realizing it.

The importance of learning to prioritize

Learning to prioritize can help us find the balance between both things. Because when we only attend to obligations, we feel empty, like robots. And when we only attend to what we want, our conscience tells us that we are not doing something right and it does not work either.. Furthermore, when we find or try to have this balance, our well-being improves, we feel calmer and enjoy things more.

What are the three most priority things for me today? Not the ones I would like, but the ones I see directing my life currently. This difference is very important. We all have in our heads the things that we believe or would like to be important to us and to which we would like to dedicate time, but reality is something else, and that is what rules. What we really invest our time in. Whether or not we are faithful to that and whether we are consistent with our thoughts.

For example, a person may have the belief that family is the most important thing, but perhaps in reality they hardly spend quality time with the family, because they are working endless days, spending time on their cell phone or doing anything else.. And that person repeats the same thing day after day without realizing what he is doing. As if it were a robot.

Reflect and make changes

Ask yourself the following question and stop to listen to the answer, not automatically with the first thing that comes to mind, but stop. What three things do I do for myself today?

Now see if there is at least one answer and then try to see if that answer matches what you would really like it to be. Also notice how you feel about the response you have obtained, what emotion name you would give it. Realize and start by making small changes that will help you get closer and closer to the answer you would like.. When you feel that you are achieving it, she pays attention again to how you feel, what name of emotion you would give it now.

And this is how we can choose and decide to be the ones who take the reins of our life and stop going automatically and at full speed through life. I propose an exercise to you. Think that, if what you consider to be your priorities (for example, family, time for yourself, and your friends), a person came and did not allow you to have them.

It prevented you from spending time with your family, yourself and your friends. How would you react? I answer you, wrong. You probably wouldn’t allow it. Well now realize that, sometimes, that person who prevents it is yourself. How about? Obviously, there is a part in which life takes us, but let us not forget that there is another part that we can choose and sometimes we renounce that power.
