How Does Therapy Work?

The biggest obstacle to starting therapy is the lack of knowledge about how it “works”, what they are going to ask me, what I will have to explain. Whatever the professional, they will adjust to your needs.

Psychological Therapy, what does it consist of?

There are many and varied techniques, currents and theories about therapies in psychology. From psychoanalysis to behaviorism. I am not going to give a theoretical class on each of them, just a brief overview.

In a few simple words, the types of therapy range from the most extensive in time and deep, covering a lot of information about aspects of the patient’s life, such as psychoanalysis that starts from childhood and delves into every small detail, to the most concrete measures focused exclusively on the eradication of the symptom, focusing only on the behavior, without delving into the reasons that cause it.

Each psychologist will apply some techniques or others depending on their way of working, but above all, taking into account each case and the patient’s needs and priorities.

How, how much and when each patient is delved into, depends largely on the patient’s interest. Although the professional is the guide along the way, the route and pace are set by the patient.

The psychologist will assess exercises and guidelines for the patient to carry out, both in the consultation itself and outside the session. And little by little, find the desired improvement, balance and emotional well-being.
