The Psicotools center, one of the reference entities in terms of therapy and psychological assistance in Barcelona, organizes its Mindfulness workshop for lawyers at the beginning of 2020.
This initiative, titled Mindfulness Workshop: An alternative way of living in advocacy will take place in the afternoons of every Monday from February 10 to March 2, and on Tuesday, March 10, at the Col·legi de l’Advocacia of Barcelona.
What is the relationship between Mindfulness and advocacy?
Mindfulness, which is sometimes translated as Full Attention, is a psychotherapeutic practice inspired by vipassana meditation, although it is devoid of all the religious and mystical connotations of this ancient tradition and has been standardized and designed so that its effects can be easily investigated by the scientific community.
Since it was developed during the second half of the 20th century, Mindfulness has been applied to many contexts that go beyond the classical field and psychotherapy itself, and in many of them benefits have been observed for its practitioners. One of these contexts is the world of work linked to organizations that work in highly competitive environments and whose workers are frequently exposed to stress. Mindfulness serves, among other things, to manage high levels of stress and facilitate the task of focusing attention on the search for practical solutions and achieving goals.
This makes Mindfulness of interest in the world of law, given that Anxiety and excess stress are the second most common health problem among lawyers, according to the First Study on Pathologies and Injuries of Lawyers in Spain carried out by the Institute for Research Applied to Law Foundation. Furthermore, a report published by Iberian Lawyer in 2018 indicates, based on survey-based research, that anxiety is the most common psychological health problem among lawyers.
This type of evidence on the psychological wear and tear associated with the legal profession reflects the complexity of the profession, always subject to change and the ability to adapt to new things. Fortunately, Mindfulness is a very practical tool to face the challenges of daily work from a constructive mindset. Besides, Once you have learned its theoretical and practical foundations, it is easy to use in a wide variety of situations without needing help. That is why many companies organize Mindfulness in company courses and workshops.
