The beginning of a new year always comes loaded with expectations, goals and promises of personal transformation. However, if we are honest, Many of these resolutions come from the wrong place: shame, guilt or the feeling of not being enough..
Have you ever wondered why most New Year’s goals fail before February? Because, although they are disguised as good intentions, deep down they are attempts to fix something that we believe is wrong with us.
Losing weight because “I don’t like my body,” saving money because “I’m a financial disaster,” finding a partner because “I feel alone and incomplete.” These goals do not come from love, but from self-rejection. and our circumstances.
What would happen if instead of trying to “fix ourselves,” we gave ourselves recognition? What if instead of trying to change from lack, we did it from abundance and possibility? This is the invitation I want to make to you for 2025: transform guilt into purpose and fear into power.
Change Begins in Being, Not in Doing
When we set goals from self-criticism, we prepare ourselves for self-sabotage. We demand quick results from ourselves, we measure success in numbers and we punish ourselves when we fail. But true lasting change is not born from an “should”, but from a deep and authentic “want.”
Even science backs this idea! Our emotions play a key role in how we make decisions and seek change. This is where the brain comes into play.
Neurosciences explain to us that The brain is designed to avoid pain and seek pleasure. In this process, the amygdala, a small almond-shaped structure located in the center of the brain, acts as our emotional alarm system. Its main function is to detect threats and activate fight or flight responses. When we set goals from criticism, the amygdala interprets this approach as a danger, generating stress and fear of failure.
On the contrary, when we create goals from an authentic desire, we activate the brain’s reward system, releasing dopamine, the feel-good hormone. This chemical difference drives sustainable motivation and makes the process enjoyable rather than feared.
So how do we do it? Here is an exercise to redirect your goals from authenticity and personal power:
Step 1: Recognize your History
Write down some of the important goals you have set for yourself in previous years. Next to each one, write down the emotion you felt when stating it: Shame? Fear? Frustration? This first step is vital to become aware of the emotional roots of your desires. Don’t judge yourself, be self-compassionate, and just observe.
Example:
Step 2: Redefine your Intentions
Let’s change the blame and shame approach of years past! Choose a goal from your list for 2025 and ask yourself: “If I were already experiencing this, how would I feel?” Maybe it’s freedom, peace, joy or confidence. Write down those emotions because they are the true goals. Your job will be to start cultivating those emotions now. Forget about waiting to reach your goal for now, focus on this.
Example:
Step 3: Connect with Your Identity
Ask yourself: “Who do I need to be to create this reality?” Instead of focusing on what you should do, focus on who you need to become. For example, if your goal is to improve your health, instead of saying, “I should go to the gym,” think, “I am a person who honors my body and my energy.” Acting from that identity facilitates aligned decisions.
In the example of losing weight, you can choose healthier options without feeling like an obligation, or enjoy a daily walk because you are someone who feels good when you move, instead of seeing it only as a chore to lose weight. The key is to integrate the new identity as part of your daily life.
Step 4: Create a Reaffirmation Ritual
Take a few minutes each day to visualize yourself living from that identity. Feel it, vibrate it, integrate it. This practice not only programs your mind for success, it transforms how you perceive yourself.
The Power to Transform History
It’s not about ignoring what you want to change, but about approaching change from a place of self-love and expansion. When you change the story you tell yourself, you change the actions you take and, ultimately, the results you get.
This 2025, I invite you to let go of the need to fix yourself and embrace the opportunity to expand.. Do it with a clear purpose and from the certainty that you already have everything you need to create the life you want.
When you act from your being, doing becomes natural and the results stop depending on willpower. You become the cause, not the effect. You stop chasing goals and start attracting them.
May 2025 be the year in which you stop getting ready and start recognizing yourself. Because you are already enough. You are already capable. You are already powerful.
Happy New Year, happy new you!
