Stress And Anxiety: Problem Solving Techniques

Stress and Anxiety: Problem Solving Techniques

We can define the problem as “the failure to find an effective response.” Problem solving is useful in reducing anxiety associated with the inability to make decisions.

We are faced with a demand to be able to solve problems in the best possible way. Given this demand, at PsicologíaOnline we have written the following article, showing a series of Problem Solving Techniques

Steps to follow

  1. Identify problematic situations.
  2. Describe in detail the problem and the usual response to said problem. By describing the situation and the response in terms of who, what, where, when, how and why, you will see the problem more clearly. When describing the answer, let us remember to add what objectives we intend, that is: if all or part of the objective were met, it would mean that the problem would be resolved or in the process of being resolved.
  3. Make a list of alternatives. In this phase, the strategy called “Brainstorm” is used to achieve the newly formulated objectives. During this phase, the brainstorming technique should be limited to developing general strategies to achieve the objectives.
  4. Check the consequences. This step consists of selecting the most promising strategies and evaluating the consequences of putting them into practice.
  5. Evaluate the results: Once the new response has been tried, the consequences should be observed, for example: Do things happen as planned? Have the selected alternatives been effective? Are the new alternatives more effective than those used until now?
