I would like to talk about when there is a need to seek help from a mental health professional.
Even today, going to a psychologist is not particularly well regarded, which is why we sometimes delay our visit to a specialized center to the detriment of our well-being.
It is true that the taboo surrounding mental health in general is becoming less and less, but it is still difficult to face the fact that we need help. This occurs because over the years there has been the mistaken idea that psychologists treat mentally unbalanced people. Currently, this association is not so strong and it is beginning to be assumed that having to benefit from psychological support is something common that happens in stages, moments, situations in which the person has not been able to correctly manage their emotions.
Therefore, when to go? What has to be happening to me to take the step?
The answer may be very broad, but I am going to simplify it. And he considered that it is enough to feel that a situation overwhelms you and you consider that your resources are not enough to overcome it.
A situation overwhelms you, when it interferes with your sleep or eating, when you begin to perceive that your thoughts are usually negative, you see your future as very difficult, when you have stopped enjoying those things that you previously liked, when you prefer to stay at home and you start to isolate yourself, you suffer frequent pains (headaches, stomach discomfort, muscle fatigue…), you feel fatigued for no apparent reason, at the first anxiety attacks (you feel tachycardia, fear of losing control, feeling dizzy, trembling…), you feel like crying, irritability, feelings of worthlessness, low self-esteem (you don’t feel capable of doing things, you value yourself negatively…). And I could continue listing situations and symptoms that would help you identify that the time has come to go to a psychologist.
Something very important and that they don’t usually tell you, is that the most significant thing for a therapy to work, is the therapeutic bond, which is the one you achieve with your therapist, therefore, I encourage you that when you decide to go to a professional, make sure that you have felt comfortable, calm, not judged, the important thing is that you perceive that you are in front of someone who accepts you as you are and that, therefore, you can open yourself to him without fear.
All in all, I hope you liked the new post from the Ongizate Comprehensive Psychology Center. And I encourage you not to delay visiting a psychologist if you feel any of the situations described, since the longer you delay, the more difficult the intervention will be.
Greetings
