What Is A Life Crisis?

A life crisis is a period of time in which the person is immersed in a process of personal or psychological questioning.

One of the problems that we frequently deal with in our consultation is that of being “suffering” from a vital crisis and to the Psychological consequences that is derived from it.

A Life Crisis We could define it as a period of time in which the person who suffers from it is immersed in a psychological questioning and staff that provokes Anxiety, discouragement, confusion and many others negative emotions sources of psychological distress.

The Vital Crises They can have two origins depending on the event: Expected and Unexpected

They would be those that cause discomfort to the person as a result of the person’s own life cycle.

For example, adolescence, middle age (“mid-life crisis”) and old age. Life crises due to expected events would also be those changes that occur in our lives when the time comes. create anxiety, uncertainty, confusion, fear….here we would find events like the immersion in the world of work, completion of studies, job promotions, children who grow up and “leave” the family home….and so many situations depending on each person or situation.

Vital Crises due to unexpected events

The most common cause would be a loss that shakes our entire world, which would include the death of a loved one, loss of health, loss of work, accidents, having to emigrate to another city or country, breakup of a romantic relationship… either any unexpected event that makes us question our life, our way of being and doing.

What to do in the event of a Life Crisis?

If the discomfort that is causing us is high, it is advisable to go to a psychologist who, through a therapeutic process, will help us place ourselves in the temporality of a crisis, and depending on its origin, a process of adaptation and/or acceptance will be worked on. the new stage that lies ahead of us.
