The bioenergetics was born with Dr. Alexander Lowen, who created Bioenergetic Analysis as an extension of the work of his teacher Wilhem Reich (1897-1957, psychoanalyst, doctor and student of Freud). Reich separated himself from the psychoanalytic approach when he began to work in therapy with the body, an aspect until then forgotten in psychoanalysis.
What is bioenergetics?
Lowen, together with Pierrakos, shaped what today is called Bioenergetic Analysis, which continues to evolve with the research of psychoanalysts, psychiatrists, biologists and doctors, such as Daniel Stern, John Bowlby, Stanley Keleman, Robert Lewis among others.
“The therapeutic purpose, then, was to restore the ability to surrender totally to sensations and feelings, which Reich called orgasmic potency. This would be achieved with a combination of characterological analysis and workbody, intended to reduce or eliminate muscular tensions that block the surrender of the body to its feelings. As a patient of Reich, I experienced the effectiveness of this therapeutic method.”

The basis of bioenergetics It lies in analyzing the body to identify through it possible energy blockages, past traumas and muscular resistance. The expression of our emotional life through the body allows us to work through relaxation, breathing, movement… and thus unlock emotionality, working on what was left pending in it or what was not allowed to come out.
The objective therefore is to give again fluidity to the blocked reenergize the parts of the body that are rigid and frozen and re-acquire the parts that we left without feeling of the body and heart.
It is a therapy related to humanistic-experiential approach and many professionals turn to it and its diagnostic classification to carry out therapeutic work.
