We all have manias, habits that we cannot avoid and, we don’t know why, if we don’t do them we don’t feel calm. Some people need to make sure they have closed the door to the house properly, others need pictures to be straight or books to be arranged in a certain way. Since mania basically has an anxiety-releasing component, it usually occurs in people with a tendency to be obsessive.
There are also other types of habits that we can inherit from our family, habits that we repeat without realizing it but that provide us with security. What is true is that practically all of us, to a greater or lesser extent, have one or more manias that accompany us in our daily lives. Keep reading this article to know why do we have manias and more details.
What are manias and why do we have them?
As we have already mentioned, manias are gestures that we usually repeat to feel safer and also to release anxiety. In principle, manias do not pose any problem; on the contrary, they are usually gestures that reduce our level of anxiety in certain situations. We should only consider going to a specialist when we are forced to perform these behaviors urgently, and if, by not doing so, we notice that our anxiety level increases greatly.
Sometimes they also identify tics and maniaswhen they are two totally different concepts, since tics are involuntary and/or repetitive movements that we perform at times of great anxiety, while manias are acts that we also perform when we are tired. On the other hand, a tic has an essentially physical component, while manias are psychological for the most part.
We can also observe the manias in a very common in childrenusually because we have instilled it in them or while they are learning behaviors that will be useful later, such as those related to hygiene. The most common hobbies in children are walking without stepping on the stripes or washing their hands frequently.
